EVALUATION - Question Four

How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

These are themedia technologies that we used shown on a wordle...

We used video cameras to film our music video, and we also used them for our research. When we did our audience research we found that it was easier to record our findings than to create a survey.

We also used still cameras to take pictures of locations before we filmed in them, and when we was filming we took pictures of the locations with the characters in them to use in our digipak and have options for our poster. This was useful as we did not then need to go back to the locations after we filmed to take pictures. It also keeps continuity as all the photos are the same as the video.

Our mobile phones were helpful when planning and filming. We used them to message each other and arrange filming times. We also took pictures with them, and was able to research something if needed when we was out filming and did not have access to a computer.

Myspace, wikiedia and facebook were great to look up ad research our artists profile as we could have a look at their fan base. We also used it to look at their style for outfit inspiration in our video.

We used youtube to look up the artists existing songs, and to find interviews of Daisy Dares You talking about her music.

I used prezi and slideshare in my evaluation as they are a different way of displaying they information, and look more exciting, interesting and colourful.

We made an animatic from our storyboard to display what our music video will be like and also, so we can stick to our storyboard without going off track.

We used final cut express to make our music video and photoshop to make out poster and digipak.

For research into posters and digipak we used a website called coverdude.com and used google to find lots of music advertisements and posters- so we was sure of what had to be included.

Photoshop was usefull to make our digipaks and postersas we could add effects to the images we had taken, and used the same ones to keep a theme going on our poster and digipak. Aswell as this, the photos we used in our digipak and poster were ones we had taken during filming.

When our video was completed using final cut express, we uploaded it to youtube. This is a large video sharing website where people all over the world can view our music video. We also used the social networking sites twitter and facebook, to share the videos and to also get feedback from them.

EVALUATION - Question Three

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

We made a questionaire to ask people what they thought of our music video.

All of the people we asked agreed to liking our video. This is extremely positive feedback and could not have asked for better.

We also asked them what thier favourite part of the video was and they all came up with different answers.  This is a good thing as it shows that there are lots of positive parts in the video, and not just one main aspect.

When asked if the video is good enough to be put on the music channel half agreed. The other half chose 'depends what channel'. For this question we should have been more specific as it would be good to know what channel they would expect to see it on.

When we asked our audience if they saw any similarities between our video they chose 'jessi j's nobodys perfect' and 'bombay bicycle club'. The jessie ' song was chosen for its randomness and wierd things.

We was influenced by the bicycle in 'bombay bicycle clubs' video 'shuffle'.

Overall the comments made on our music video were extremely positive and we also learnt that if we made improvents we could have slowed down the editing, and added more of a storyline and colour. If we made another music video we would know not to make all the editing as fast to the audeince could not get confused, do more colour editing and add more of a story to the song to give the audience more of an interest.

We did not think our questionaire was detailed enough so we then decided to follow it up with a video of our audience feedback.

Here are some wordles relating to our video feedback revealing our findings...

What did you like?

Whats your favourite part?

What would you change?

A member of our group posted our video on facebook and here is the feedback given....

the poster

We added the Daisy Dares You website to the bottom of the poster so fans would be able to look at her website. We also gave information of where the song is available- hmv and itunes. The fact that the song is out now, which is important as consumers would then know when they are able to purchase the song.

our new poster design

We decided to change our poster because we didn't think the other one was up to the standard we wanted. We created this one using photoshop using the photo that is on our digipak as the background of the poster.

I chose to put the characters in black and white because it would make the writing stand out more in front of the background as the characters were originally in bright clothes against a coloured backing. However we chose to pick out some colours of what they were wearing as without a hint of colour the poster looked dull and boring.

I found the graffiti writing on a website i found on google. We thought this would be good to use as the background is the two main characters standing in front of a wall, so it would look like a realistic writing style for the background.

the photo what we used as the backdrop was also the picture that we used on the front of our digipack. This is useful s if someone wanted to buy the cd after seeing the poster they would know what too look for and also adds continuity to the artists work.

magazine poster- first draft

This is the first draft of our poster. It was done on "paint" and we felt it was a poor quality poster with insufficient in detail.

digipak

We made our digipak on photoshop. We used a picture that we took of dreamcatchers when filming to be the background and covered it with polaroids. We made the polaroids using POLADROID.
The front cover photo was taken on the base of our photo themed idea. It is in keeping with the polaroid theme if the front is of "rosie' and her friend taking a photo. The plain brick background allows all the attention to be on the girls in the photo, and the large "daisy dares you" print stands out so consumers can see who's digipak it is. We put on the track list, with more of the artists songs on it and a bar code to make it look realistic.

human bike

In our video we was inspired by the human bicycle in Bombay Bicycle Club's video 'Shuffle'. We struggled at first as we had to make sure the singer -myself, was riding the bicycle. To film it we had to put the camera on the tripod and film before we set ourselves up as there was no one to record us. hannah, who normally records, was the front of the bike, and Georgia- who plays Rosie, was the bike seat.

making the photos to polariods

filming and the flower

We filmed in a field to film a rose burning. We beleived this would be a good shot to put in our video as the song is called rosie so the burning rose would then be significant and symbolic of the friendship. Unfortunately the safetly rules we set ourselves we not fully abided. the plan was to set the rose on fire using a lighter and film it at a safe distance, but the flower was too soft and moist to burn, so we used a can of deordrant and a flame to create the fire effect as it would not burn otherwise.

j'adore france

One of our group members went on a day trip to france, so we decided that they should take the camera with them to film some french things. This would make our video look unique as not everyone is able to go to france and ilm for their videos, and we will have completely different locations.

Our group member filmed:
  • the sky
  • french signs
  • trafic lights
  • roads
She filmed a variety of things so we have a selection of choice of what can be inserted into our video.

bloopers...

We decide to make a bloopers video of the funny bits of the video, with my awful singing in the background and put it onto youtube so we didn't lose the funny footage we had leftover.

We was inspired by the bubbles in Examples Kickstarts video. We decided for the main character Harley (myself) to also blow bubbles at the camera. they covered the shot and looked like we had edited the bubbles into it, and thought it gave a quirky effect to that part of the video. I was wearing bright colours against the dark background of the garden which also made me stand out.

Editing screen shots

We had to edit the lip syncing to the music in our video. We used the bright field as the base to edit on as this was the best lip syncing section we had. Once that was put in place we then put the other lip syncing shots underneath it on other layers and locked them so they could not be moved and messed up with the lyrics. This meant that hen we added random video shots without singing in the order would not be put at risk.

We had to cut down shots using the cropping tool so we could get the shots we needed for our film, as when we was capturing the music video it was not accurate enough to put straight into the video.

We had to make the shots parallel to the music. so when the music was fast we had to use fast edditing. Similarly., when the music was slow we made some of the shots slower and used more relaxed footage of the actors.

We filmed in s many places we had lots of shots to choose from. This made it easier to make sure everything fitted, to continue to make the music and video parallel to each other.

We put the title of "Daisy dares you", and the song "Rosie" at the beginning of the music video so the audience know what the song is. This is also the technique they use in music channels and we decided to mirror this.

We separated the different shots we had into folders when we was editing to make it less confusing for us. We had one folder or lip syncing and another for the random shots we had taken. We labeled the shots we had of the different places we had been as we had been so many places it was hard to keep track of what we had.

We slowed down the footage of the waltzer as it was too fast to put in out video and fitted well with the slow music and the lyrics "you'll be back to the girl that makes me smile more than anyone else" as the lyrics are also slowed down, and shows the characters having fun.

Daisy dares you interview;

This interview shows Daisy Dares You talking about her music. She also refences her influences, for example Bombay bicycle club. We used thier idea of the human bike in thier video Shuffle for our music video.

She describes her music as lively, easy listening, feisty music. We had a group discussion and realised this is what we needed to come across in our music video.

coverdude.com

coverdude.com is a website which shows lots of artists digipak. As a group we researched into these to see what we need to include on our digipak and found some digipaks we thought were good, and we cold use as inspiration.

We thought these digipaks were impressive as they were both for girls and all had a different picture on each side yet they all kept to the same theme.
